Have you ever dreamed of a mountain retreat? This beautiful A-frame home in Colorado was the perfect place to create a mountain getaway. Interior designers and part owners Darin and Yvonna certainly had a challenge on their hands. With the complexity of an A-frame with a dormer extension for the kitchen, this left many odd angles and spaces to fill. Darin and Yvonna explored other options but ended up coming to CliqStudios.

When asked about their original needs, Yvonna said, “Our goal was to fit a new-build kitchen in a challenging A-frame space with a dormer extension. We also wanted to utilize the staircase for a coffee bar with additional storage off the kitchen- storage and dead space are challenging in an A-frame design. Lastly, we wanted a wet bar/laundry area in the basement game room for ease and entertaining.”

The couple partnered with CliqStudios designer, Elise St. Michel on their kitchen. Working together, they were able to solve many of the issues that kept coming up in the layout. Yvonna said, “Our (original) plans were not how we wanted the kitchen to be, and we had a hard time working with the drafter for customization as it was a kitchen design with little customization options available. CliqStudios' design was essential to the success of our finished kitchen! They heard our needs, worked with less than ideal plans, plus we got a really beautiful custom-tailored kitchen that we wanted and didn't get with our kitchen drafting plans.”

For the perfect mountain aesthetic, the kitchen was finished in Craftsman line’s Harrison door in the crisp Divinity finish. To utilize the dormer, they created a U-shaped peninsula design with space for seating. Once the layout was complete, they finished it with a pull-out waste basket, tray and base storage pull-outs, blind corner pull-outs, a custom paneled refrigerator and a roll-out tray pantry cabinet.

Yvonna and Darin used contrasting modern finishes for a mountain aesthetic. Sharp black cabinet hardware, a black hood and chairs perfectly complemented the white cabinets. The organic elements such as the stunning green stone countertops and matching slab backsplash added the perfect amount of detail along with the vaulted wood ceilings.

We asked Yvonna how easy it was to work with CliqStudios and her designer. She said, “Elise was fast, easy to communicate with (even over email), and really helped suggest the right fit in the more challenging areas like the upper cabinets while accounting for the limited space of an A-frame slope. Plus, the base corner cabinets as our large range made the corner cabinets challenging.”

At the end of our conversation, Yvonna finished by saying, “Darin and I have built kitchen cabinets from scratch many times to save money on a variety of projects but having used CliqStudios for our personal homes a few times now, I don't think we will go anywhere else. The quality is so good. It is hard to find solid wood and dovetail joinery for a fair price, the design is so easy and the customer service unmatched.”

“We paid for a consultation design by another company and that experience was more commercial, difficult, and not as personal. Not to mention the overseas production would have delayed our project further and not be as sustainable. Additionally, we saved a lot of money without having to compromise on quality or looks.”
